"O God of earth and altar, Bow down and hear our cry, Our earthly rulers falter, Our people drift and die; The walls of gold entomb us, The swords of scorn divide; Take not Thy thunder from us, But take away our pride." - G.K. Chesterton, "O God of Earth and Altar"

Great pictures, Charlie. For all the Adamites who like to give names to things, your bird used to be called a Blue Grouse, but the avian powers that be have uttered a word and caused the one bird to be divided into two: Sooty Grouse and Dusky Grouse. Your bird is a fine example of a female Sooty Grouse, a species that was spoken into being early this summer.
